The following item was provided to me by Nigel Bassett. It was used to link the #222B Bassett family of Farnsborough, Kent, England, to the Bassetts of Rotherfield, Sussex, England (#199B). Nigel also took the 37-marker y-chromosome test and his results are back. This is our first result from any of the Bassetts of Rotherfield, Sussex, England.

Hannah Basset now residing in the parish Of Bromley widow and relict of Edward Basset Collier on her oath saith that her Said late husband was the son of Alexander Basset an Inhabitant in the parish of Rotherfield in the county of Sussex and was born therein and had not gained any other Settlement as she this Examinant hath often heard him often say and declare And the she hath by him two children Mary about 10yrs; and Stephen aged about 8 years
Besides she this examinant further says that about 17 years ago she tired herself to and did serve one whole year with John Aleham a farmer in the said parish of Rotherfield and hath said that the said two children were born in the same Parish And that she hath not gained any subsequent Settlement to her knowledge in her own right.

We can now say that the #199 Bassetts of Rotherfield, Sussex, share a common ancestor with several other Bassett lines, all with roots in or near London, Sussex and Cambridgeshire. Their closest link is to the #178B Thomas & George Bassett of New York family. Since both families share the same mutated marker in position 12 (a value of 30), it is probable that the #178B line also descends from the #199B family as well.
