Rites Held For George M. Bassett
KENMORE – George Morgan Bassett, 87, of 141 Palmer Avenue, Kenmore, more recently at the Erie County Infirmary, Alden, N.Y., went to the be “with Christ, which is far better”, on September 9, 1959.
He is survived by one son, Lowell P., Palmer Avenue, who is employed by the State Board of Equalization and Assessment, and one daughter, Virginia L., 1101 East 35th Street, Brooklyn 10, N.Y., who devotes her life to missionary work. Also surviving are two brothers, William A. Bassett of Perry, and Eugene F. Bassett of Jamestown, plus numerous nephews and nieces.
Mr. Bassett’s friends will remember him as a redhead who loved the Lord and who had strong moral and political views. His humor was ever delightful and his best stories were about the old days. During his life he was a printer, telephone installer, editor of Akron News, fruit farm hand, salesman, and writer for a company specializing in placement of executive personnel.
His wife, Mrs. Harriet P. Bassett died in 1930.
Mr. Bassett’s special interests included people, Bible study and Bible teaching, history, astronomy, geology, genealogy, writing of music, poetry, and fiction, and chorus and choir singing.
His church preference was either Methodist or Presbyterian, with choice varying according to the minister’s preaching of the fundamental gospel.
His eyes were given to the Buffalo Eye Bank.
He was particularly fond of his home town, Castile, N.Y., and Letchworth Park nearby. For many years he attended the “May Breakfasts” at Castile.
Eventually his ashes will be placed to rest in Grace Cemetery, Castile.
