Auto Accident Fatal To Elton M. Bassett
Resident For Many Years, Had Been Special Officer – Made Friends
Athol, Jan. 23 – Elton M. Bassett, 70, who was injured internally 10 days ago when a truck on which he was riding pinned him against a wall, died early today at his home at Pinedale avenue. He had suffered intensely since the accident.
Mr. Bassett had lived here many years, coming from near Millington. He had worked as a special officer and on the roads and was well known throughout Athol, where he made many friends. He was a native of Worcester and the son of Hiram and Mary Bassett. He leaves two sons, Harry and Ralph Bassett, both of Athol and a daughter, Mrs. Mary B. Twitchell of Hartford, Ct. He has a number of grandchildren. His wife died a few years ago. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 at the Starrett Memorial church and burial will be in the Silver Lake cemetery. Rev. Dr. Estes will officiate.

Ralph E. Bassett
ATHOL – Ralph E. Bassett, 77, formerly of 310 Intervale Ave., who moved Dec. 22 to Dallas, Tex. to reside with a nephew, Howard Twichell, died Sunday in a Dallas Hospital where he was taken after he was stricken Jan. 3.
His wife, Beatrice (Nevers) Bassett, died Oct. 17.
He was born in Dana, and lived here most of his life. Before his retirement he had been a long time employee of A.K. Turner Co., truckers and long distance movers. He leaves a brother, Harry Bassett of Phillipston, five nephews and three niece.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Fiske Funeral Home with Rev. Harold D. Smock of Starrett Memorial Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
