This will be especially interesting to all of those who descend from William Bassett of Plymouth who arrived on the ship Fortune to America in 1621.
His wife’s name was Elizabeth. We have not yet proven her maiden name. In an effort to see if we could find out more about her, more than 10 years ago I searched and found a direct female line descendant of hers. I found Sarah Kay Tucker Marvin who after a few emails and phone calls agreed to take part in the mtDNA test (Mitochondrial DNA) passed from a mother to her children each generation. Other than finding one other direct descendant of Elizabeth also descended through daughter Ruth, we have gone more than 10 years with no matches.
This past week we got our first mtDNA Match! It turns out to be very interesting. We share a common mtDNA ancestor with Vladimir Yakubovsky of Russia. I have tried to contact him but I have not yet heard back.
