Waldo Smith Bassett served in World War I and earned the Distinguished Service Cross. He died in 1956 in Maryland. He left behind his medal at the home he was living in at the time. That family is now trying to return the medal to a descendant or close relative. I know Waldo married, but cannot find any record of children. I also know he had at least one brother and one sister, but I don’t have any descendants listed for them either.
