Dean G. Bassett was born on July 31, 1934, in Fairmont, MN. He was the son of George R. and Hattie (Ralph) Bassett. Dean attended school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School with the class of 1952.
On October 11, 1958, Dean was united in marriage to Sharon L. Osberg in South Dakota. The couple resided in Fairmont. In fact, Dean was born in his house and where he lived his entire life! This union was blessed with four children, Brian, Allan, Lisa, and Mark. Dean and Sharon shared over 65 years together.
Dean worked for many years as a lineman for the Fairmont Power Plant. He was a proud member of the Fairmont Fire Department, serving for 20 years before his retirement. He was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was continually active, having held several positions in the church over the years.
During his free time, Dean enjoyed looking for deals and frequented many pawn shops over his life. Dean could also tinker like no other and could fix just about anything that needed fixing. “When wiring gets hectic, call Bassett Electric.”
Dean never met a deal, stranger, joke, snow blower, or free giveaway that he didn’t like. He got a hand me down iPad several years ago and became a super user on Craigslist (small engines were his item of choice). Dean was the first to poke fun at himself and he had plenty of material to work with. The unmistakable Dean characteristic was his one in a million smile that was given out freely, often, and to anyone. He loved his family and loved to visit with family and friends. He brightened our world and will be missed greatly.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon Bassett of Fairmont, MN; children, Brian (Ann) Bassett of Arlington, TX, Allan Bassett of Fairmont, MN, Lisa (Joe) Stackhouse of Blaine, MN, and Mark Bassett of Fairmont, MN; grandchildren, Brandon Bassett of Buffalo Center, IA., Tyson Bassett of Fairmont, MN, Jackson Bassett of Dolliver, IA, and Jenna (Mark) Lettow of Iowa Falls, IA; great grandchildren, Layden and Bailee Bassett of Elmore, MN, Henrik and George of Iowa Falls, IA and Hailee Bassett of Buffalo Center, IA.
Along with his parents, George and Hattie Bassett, Dean was preceded in death by his brother; Ralph Bassett, and sisters; Grace (Glover) Bassett, Vera (Dubravetz) Bassett, Mary (Owens) Bassett and Georgianna (Scheff) Bassett.
Memorials are preferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or to the Fairmont Fire Department.
