Mr. John D. Bassett
Mr. John D. Bassett, one of Plainfield’s eldest, died suddenly at his home in that village, last Saturday morning. He had retired the night before in the apparent enjoyment of usual health. At about 7 o’clock, Saturday morning his daughter noticed that he was in distress. All that could be done to afford relief was resorted to, but to no purpose as he sank rapidly, and in that short space of an hour after his indisposition become noticeable, his spirit took its flight from earth, his death being attributed to heart disease. The deceased was well advanced in his 85th year, and had long been a resident of Plainfield. Mr. Bassett was a soldier in the late Civil War and had been twice married, both wives having preceded him to the grave. The funeral which was a very large one, took place last Sunday, interment being made in the old Presbyterian church burial ground, near Plainfield.
