      Earl Raymond (Dutch) Bassett
      A private family service for Earl Raymond Bassett, 88, of Alto is pending. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Wallace and great-grandson, Christopher Linker. Memorials may be made to the Stella Hill Memorial Library in Alto at P.O. Box 98, Alto 75925.
      Arrangements are under the direction of O.T. Allen & Son Funeral Home.
      Captain E.R. (Dutch) Bassett was born in Pocatello, Idaho on May 14, 1916 to Frank and Leura Cushman Bassett. He died at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital June 24.
      Capt. Bassett began his career in Maryville, Missouri. As an instructor of aero-acrobatics. He was a charter member of the Civil Air Patrol training civilian pilots during World War II.
      Captain Bassett was recognized for 31 years of outstanding service with Braniff International Airline.
      Upon retiring he continued ranching and received awards from the Cherokee County Soil and Water Conservation District for his land improvement and beefmaster cattle.
      He was a member of the BISE and OX5 pioneer aviation organization.
      Survivors are his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Link Bassett of Alto; four daughters, Beverly Wallace of Palestin, Donna Hood of Tyler, Wendy David of Alto and Janette Milner of Tyler; a brother, Donald Frank Bassett of San Diego, California; 10 grandchildren, Lisa l'Anglois, Dana Baca, Anita Linker, Dale Hodd, Leslie Davis, Jennifer Graham, Gary Davis Jr., Jodie Davis, Angela Buddin and Matthew Milner, and 10 great-grandchildren.
