Decatur - Alan I. Hurd, 78, of Clarendon Hills, born in Decatur in 1923, passed away Saturday (August 18, 2001) in his home.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Community Presbyterian Church, Clarendon Hills, a Chicago suburb, with reception following.
Mr. Hurd was a graduate of Oak Park High School and Wabash College, Indiana. He served in World War II as a combat engineer in the Third Armored Division in Germany. He was the CEO of Russel T. Gray Advertising Agency in Chicago. Mr. Hurd loved his community and served continously for 47 years. His volunteer services included: Clarendon Hills Village Board, Village President, Lions Club President, Hinsdale Community House Board of Governors, President of the Library Board, Chair Community Presbyterian Church 50th Celebration and Clarendon Hills 50th Anniversary Committee, Elder and Deacon of his church, Civic Advisory Board Member of Hinsdale Hospital and Board Member of Hinsdale Area United Way.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Jeanne (Valentine) Hurd; daughters, Jan (Jack) Kelsheimer, Decatur; Judy (Steve) Penticoff, Rockford; Nancy (Jeff) Bassett, Downers Grove.
