NATICK Paul Bernard Guilfoil, age 57, a gifted man who readily shared the joys he found in this world with those he loved, died peacefully after a long illness on Thursday morning, January 8, 2015, at his Millville home. He was the devoted husband of Lee Ann (Bassett) Guilfoil for 32 years.
Born and raised in Natick, he was a son of Margaret L. (McQuillen) and the late Raymond P. Guilfoil. Paul was a Saint Patrick?s School alumnus and a 1975 graduate of Natick High School. He was employed with Roche Bros for the next 13 years, successfully working his way into management. After a ten-year courtship, he and Lee Ann were married in 1982. They settled in Millville three years later to create a loving home for their growing family.
Paul worked for a while with Bostonia Beverages on Mill Street in Natick, eventually joining the Pepsi-cola Company. For the past 28 years, Paul had worked in every area of Pepsi?s Taunton warehouse, ultimately holding a position on the work safety commission, a responsibility he was proud to bear.
A true history buff, Paul sought to pique the interest of his young sons through highly animated tales of adventure. He would study up on places to visit on day trips, whether museums, landmarks, or just towns, and regale them with stories all the way there and back, filling the trips with wonder and excitement. He became so proficient in his area knowledge that he pretty much became an oral historian. He loved to study world history as well, teaching his boys about different wars and battles and the lessons learned from them. He instilled in them a great respect for those who have served and do serve our country to this day.
Another passion of Paul?s was photography. He preferred still to use his old 35mm camera, pulling it out wherever he roamed to document an event, place of beauty or curiosity, or just any day and the possibilities waiting around a bend. He drove across the country at five different times in his life, always relishing the opportunity to meet new people and listen to their stories.
Paul got a great charge out of toys, particularly the progression of mechanical toys over time, and enjoyed setting up and playing with model trains with his family at home. After having spent summers in Eastham as a child, he was thrilled to share some of that experience with his children and others of the next generation of Guilfoils. He and his siblings vacationed with their families ? enjoying fireworks, sandcastles on the sandbar and dingy boat trips out to the Target Ship - boating, swimming, and generally enjoying summers as only those on Cape Cod can. In quiet moments, when not being stalked by someone with a paintball gun, Paul would likely be found reading or working on a crossword puzzle.
He is survived by Lee Ann; their sons, Jason Paul Guilfoil and Jeffrey Douglas Guilfoil, both of Millville; his mother, Margaret Guilfoil of Natick; siblings John D. Guilfoil of Uxbridge, Michael J. Guilfoil and his wife Sharon of Franklin, Peter R. Guilfoil of Natick, Ann Gilman and her husband Kenny of Mashpee, Susan Wetherbee and her husband Ralph of Wareham, and Mark S. Guilfoil and his wife Debbie of Bellingham; his sister-in-law, Pamela B. Maher and her husband Lawrence of Sherborn, and brother-in-law, Douglas C. Bassett of Natick; nieces and nephews, Danielle, Courtney, Benjamin, Shaun, Megan, Colleen, Katelyn, Jennifer, Patrick, Matthew, Sara, Brianna, Laura, Tyler, Griffin, Laura, and Alexis; and their families.
His funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Wednesday, January 14th at 9:00AM with a mass of Christian Burial in Saint Patrick?s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, at 11AM.
Burial will follow at Dell Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul?s memory may be made c/o his family.
