Joyce Bassett
Joyce Bassett, residen of Walnut Creek, at Peace, March 26, 2007 at age 95. Born Joyce Gilliard in Fostoria, Ohio, Joyce and her husband Earl settled in the Bay Area after he was stationed in Alameda during WWII. After her husband's death in 1960, Joyce built her own successful career as a manufacturer's sales representative for women's apparel. She enjoyed her travels and the many friends she made during her nearly thirty years in that business. Joyce was a strong, independent woman who loved music, dancing and the beauty of California. She was fun-loving and youthful in spirit; her style and the gleam in her blue eyes continued to dazzle those around her through her final days. She will be remembered for her zest for life. A devoted aunt, Joyce is survived by her niece, Sandra, and her nephew, Greg. She was the proud great-aunt to Emily, Philip, Jessica and Kelly. The family appreciates all those who cared for her so compassionately the last few years, especially her devoted caregivers at Eldercare in Walnut Creek. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Oakmont's Redwood Chapel, 2099 Reliez Valley Rd., Lafayette. Remembrances may be made to Vitas Hospice, Walnut Creek. Oakmont Mortuary (925) 935-3311.
