Mary Jo Alice Bassett, age 71, died at the Heart Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado, on November 17, 2013. Born April 26, 1942, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to Hilda (Rehder) and James LaVern Garman, Mary Jo attended Scottsbluff High School and the University of Arkansas where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She worked many years as a nurse, earned her CDL, and professionally drove long haul trucks and city buses. She was a gifted artist and accomplished wood-worker. Mary Jo loved to travel. She lived in several western Nebraska towns, in Mississippi, Arkansas, and in Colorado. She last settled in Minatare, Nebraska, where she and her husband built a log house near the lake. Mary Jo will be well remembered for her beauty, her strong, independent spirit, her artistic gift, and her human compassion. From 2006, she devoted her time to Minatare's East Lawn Cemetery. She created a revolving directory and map to help families find gravesites of their loved ones, which included several war veterans. Mary Jo employed her artistic gift, toward the cemetery's beauty - in part, by saving large pines, growing at its side. Mary Jo leaves behind her husband, Barry Bassett; children, Christine (Kirby) Austin of Russellville, Arkansas, Scott (Linda) Bassett of Waldron, Indiana, Mark (Denise) Bassett of Livingston, Montana; and six grandchildren, Nathaniel and Emily Austin, and Everett, Nicholas, Caitlin, and Ethan Bassett; and two great-grandchildren, Masen and Jack. She also leaves her sister Linda Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, and three sisters. Graveside services will be held on November 27, 2013 at East Lawn Cemetery.
