Leone Bass
STEVENSVILLE - Leone Bass, 92, of Stevensville died Thursday Aug. 7, 2008 at the Bitterroot Valley Living Center in Stevensville.
She was born Leone Edna Fehrenkamp Jan. 3, 1916 in Chicago, Ill. to Agnes and Fred Fehrenkamp. The Fehrenkamp's lived on a ranch in the Three Mile area.
Leone attended Lone Rock School for eight years, Stevensville and Drummond High School and graduated from Stevensville. She worked for her room and board in Drummond. She attended two years at the Uof M on a sewing 4H scholarship. At that time, she worked for two families to earn her room and board.
For more than seven years she worked in the office of the Missoula Mercantile. She married Dudley E. Bass, June 24, 1939. The couple lived in Missoula for several years before moving to Idaho Falls, Idaho. To them were born Bonnie Lee and Bruce Stewart.
In 1964 Kaiser Engineers International sent Leone and Dudley overseas to Tema, Ghana, West Africa. Dudley was the chief warehouse superintendent for the $122 million dollar Volta Aluminum Plant. Leone and Dudley returned to the states in 1968 and lived in Marietta, Ohio, Oakland, Calif., Dallas, Texas and New York City, where Dudley was Kaiser Engineers Service Expeditor for jobs in Australia, Jamaica and California.
From 1969 to 1971 Leone and Dudley lived in New Madrid, Mo. where Dudley was warehouse superintendent for Kaiser Noronda Aluminum Smelter. They also lived in Oklahoma City and Williamstown, Va. They returned to Terma, Ghana from 1974 to 1977 and then to Silver Bay, Minn. In 1980 they moved back to Stevensville.
Leone was the first Worthy Advisor for Rainbow Girls Assembly 32 of Stevensville and a charter member of the BPOE Does in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was a member of the Beulah Chapter of Eastern Star No. 8 and the United Methodist Church both of Stevensville.
Leone felt honored to help with the quilting on the Montana Centennial Quilt (1889-1989). Leone also helped with the invitations for Montana's Centennial kickoff under the direction of Lucylle Evans (St. Mary's Mission Preservation Trust President) of Stevensville.
She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, travel and her family and a host of friends.
Her husband Dudley preceded her in 1986, also sisters Olive Dunwell, Edna Mae Thompson and Jeanette Bryan and brothers Arthur, Ray and Ralph Fehrenkamp preceded.
Leone is survived by her daughter Bonnie (Clifford) Hansen of Stanley, Idaho, her son Bruce Bass of Pocatello, Idaho; granddaughter Sharlene Hansen (Michael) Miller; great-grandchildren Morgan and Charles Miller of Challis, Idaho. Her brother Fred (Louise) Fehrenkamp of Mesa, Ariz. and sisters Lillian Hinkley of Kalispell and Lorraine (Larry) Rogers of Billings also survive her.
Memorial services will be conducted at the Stevensville United Methodist Church Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Nancy Slabaugh-Hart officiating. Interment of her ashes will be at the Maplewood Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church.
Should friends and family desire memorials can be made to Stevensville Methodist Church, 216 College St., Stevensville or to Aspen Hospice, 1230 Marcus St., Hamilton.
The Whitesitt Funeral Home in Stevensville is in charge of arrangements.
