      DANVILLE - Leonard Carl Bassett, 86, of 206 Rushtown Road, the home where he was born, resided and farmed all of his life went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday morning, Nov. 22, 2010, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
      He was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Rush Township, Northumberland County, a son of the late Jeremiah S. and Catherine (Yeager) Bassett. On Oct. 22, 1950, he married the former Marjorie R. Vincent and celebrated 60 years of marriage.
      He was a 1942 graduate of Danville High School and served in the Navy during the Korean War.
      Carl was employed by Bassett Electric, Follmer's Trucking, Danville, and Fisher, Clark and Lauer Accounting Firm, Selinsgrove. He was also employed as an auditor for Merck and Company from 1975 until 1990 in both the Riverside plant and West Point plant. Carl served as the Rush Township tax collector for many years.
      Carl served faithfully for many years on the Montrose Broadcasting Corporation Board of Directors. He was a very active member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church in Riverside, serving on various committees, Council, Board of Trustees and was a Sunday school teacher. He served as treasurer for the Rush Township Cemetery Association and was member of the Danville/Mahoning Lodge 224 F&AM and the Danville Lions Club.
      Carl's greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and friends.
      In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry S. and Janet Bassett, of Quakertown, Gary T. and Brenda Bassett, of Rhinebeck, N.Y., Daniel C. Bassett and Susan Edgrem, of Collegeville, and Scott V. and Lori Bassett, of Mountaintop; one daughter and son-in-law, Gayann L. and Len Hornberger, of Bloomsburg; one son-in-law, Kenneth E. Roush, of Williamsport; 13 grandchildren; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Beatrice Erdman, of Danville, Geraldine and Walter Herman, of Sunbury; and Isabelle Fleming, of Conyngham; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by one daughter, Diane R. Roush on May 27, 2009, and three brothers, Alvin, Clarence and Russell Bassett.
      Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 240 Sunbury Road, Riverside, followed by a celebration of Carl's life at 1, with the Rev. Dr. Donald N. Hurley officiating.
      Burial will follow in Rush Presbyterian Cemetery, Snydertown Road, Rush Township.
