Viola Gladys (Bass) Dorow
Viola Gladys (Bass) Dorow, age 90, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2009, at St. Clare Meadows in Baraboo. Viola was born on Dec. 12, 1918, in the
township of Dellona, to John Marion Rhinehart and Hazel Maude Otto. Viola married Charles Theodore Bass on Oct. 10, 1939, in Waukon, Iowa. Charles and Viola were blessed with three children, Charles (deceased), (Patricia) of Portage, Sharon (Gerald) Flynn of Oregon, and Donna (Larry) Schroeder of Baraboo. After Viola's husband, Charles, passed on Nov. 28, 1962, she remarried to Walter Dorow of Reedsburg on Sep. 16, 1972. Walter and Viola spent five and one half wonderful years together prior to his passing on March 13, 1978. Viola was a member of the Reedsburg United Methodist
Church. She enjoyed playing cards, sewing, and was usually the first one in the boat if someone was going fishing. Viola worked for many years at Rayovac in Reedsburg, and also at Camp Chi in Wisconsin Dells. She was best known for her famous molasses cookies.
Viola was preceded in death by her brothers, Virgil (Melba), Kenneth (Beulah), Paul (Eileen), Philip (Bud, wife Janice), and Adelbert (Babe, wife Edith) Rhinehart; her sisters, Ruby (Gladyn (Buck) Davis), Mildred (Alexander (Mac) Chance), twins Laura and Helen, Esther; her son, Charles Bass; her grandson, Brian Bass; step-daughter, Janice (Richard) Bass and her step-son. Danny (Vicki) Dorow.
Viola is survived by two sisters, Florence (Francis, deceased) Hirst and Alta (Raymond, deceased) Kozlowski; two sisters-in-law, Janice and Edith Rhinehart; her daughter-in-law, Patricia Bass; daughters, Sharon (Gerald Flynn) and Donna (Larry Schroeder); stepsons, Gerald (Jane), James (Mary), and Dale (Myra) Dorow; and step-daughter, Carol (Clarence (Buzz) Wood); severalgrandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the Reedsburg United Methodist Church, 833 Third St., Reedsburg, on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at 11 a.m., Pastor David Farina officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
A luncheon will follow the service, with a procession to the Butterfield Cemetery at 2 p.m. The family would like to extend a special
thank you to the caring staff at the St Clare Meadows nursing home.
