Alma Corker Bass
Alma Corker Bass, 79, of Fredericksburg passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, with her family surrounding her.
Alma was born on Nov. 21, 1931, in Caroline County to James Lloyd and Julia Elizabeth Eisler Corker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Zack Corker, and her husband, David Brooks Bass. David and Alma were married two months shy of 50 years.
She is survived by loving daughters Hilary Dawn Shampine (Michael), and Heidi Bass, all of Fredericksburg; devoted niece Kelli Corker Embrey of Stafford; grandchildren Leah, Rachel and Ian Shampine; three siblings, Julia Rosella Gorham (Herman), of Alexandria, Lorene Rich of Colonial Beach and Vincent Corker (Pat Bell), of Stafford County; brother-in-law Austin Bass (Maggie), of Lititz, PA; sister-in-law, Dottie Tollberg (Stan), of Stafford; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews who were each dear to her heart. She also is survived by daughter Brenda Heddings and granddaughters Jenna Heddings and Kami Fox.
The family received friends Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
