Only Mother is On Job at Home

MAUD, Aug. 21 - (Special) 'Way back in the good old days when membership in the national guard meant an occasional encampment and a lot of fancy drilling in uniform H.E. Bassett, a rural mail carrier joined the organization at Wewoka. He considered that just another branch of service.
Then when the 45th was called out and sent to Fort Sill, his wife took over the duties of carrying the U.S. mail, not neglecting the training of the three children of the home. In the past three years service as mail carrier, she has lost only one day.
But when the nation went to actual war, Sgt. H.E. Bassett was given a commission as a lieutenant and eventually sent to Newfoundland where he still serves.
In the meantime daughter Nellie May Bassett, married Melvin Clelland, and both volunteered for service. She is with the U.S. engineers in Canada, and Pvt. Clelland is somewhere in England.
Then Richard C. Bassett, 20, went into service, and now is a private at March Field, Calif. Not to be outdone, the youngest son, William E. Bassett, 17, joined the navy, and is now in the south Pacific, thus completing the 100 percent service for the Bassett family.
