Mary Jane Bass
1918-2010: FARGO, N.D. - Mary Jane Bass, 91, of Fargo, N.D., died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at her home.
She was born on Dec. 19, 1918, in Russell, in central Montana. She graduated from high school in Fort Benton. Mary Jane attended Northern Montana College in Havre for two years and then attended and graduated from the University of Montana. She attended graduate school at the University of Washington.
She taught in high schools in Scobey and Stevensville and Cathlamet, Wash. She also taught at UM.
In 1945, she married Stewart Bass and they lived in Missoula, where Mr. Bass worked for American Crystal Sugar Co.
In 1959, they moved to Denver with the company and 1973 with the company to Fargo.
She did much volunteer work in her church in Denver, particularly with children in the pre-school classes.
She also did volunteer work with her children's school and served in the school lunch programs.
Her main job was being a good mother and wife, at which she did a terrific job.
Her parents, Roy and Jennie (Howell) Brust; a son Brian Bass; and her brother Robert Brust; preceded her.
Mary Jane is survived by her husband Stewart; her children, Kathy (Herman) Metzger of Climax, Minn., and Jim (Julie) Bass of Iowa City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Harriett Brust of Logan, Iowa; three grandchildren Mike (Jessica) Metzger of Elizabeth, Minn., Laura (Jeffery) Bell of East Grand Forks, Minn., and Addie Bass of Iowa City; and four great-grandchildren Brady, Claire, Ben and Ivy.
Memorial services will be held on Feb. 3, at the First United Methodist Church in Fargo. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Maplewood Cemetery in Stevensville.

Memorial Service: Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 11:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church in Fargo. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment: At a later date.
