Yvonne Bessette
Yvonne Bessette, late of Radville SK, passed away August 7, 2008 at the age of 95 years. She is survived by her daughters Darlene (Joe) Pavelich, Irene (Tom) Pelkey, Evelyn Riviere and daughter-in-law Irene Bessette; grandchildren Darcy, Tanja (Tim), Ryan (Carmen), Shelley (Darryl), Laura (Ross), Grant (Sandy), Tera, Richelle (Carey), Nicole (Jeremy), Linette (John), Jaclyn (Jeremy), 17 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Yvette Beaudry as well as several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband Rudolph, son Hector, son-in-law Maurice Riviere, parents Hector and Cecile Beaudry, sisters Agnes Prost, Anna Tosczak, Alice Beaudry and brother George Beaudry.
Yvonne was born November 14, 1912 on her parents farm southwest of Radville. She attended school for one year in Radville and then Van Alstine School. At the age of 14 she left school and began working away from home for various families in the area. It was while working away that she met her future husband, Rudolph. They were married in 1935 and began their life together on the farm where they lived until 1966 when they retired due to Rudolph's ill health. Yvonne was never one to remain idle; she was always either working in the house or spending countless hours in her garden or with the animals outside. When the children were old enough, she began helping out with the combining in the fall. She had numerous stories to tell about harvest time. When they retired, they sold their farm and moved to Weyburn. At that time, Yvonne was worried about getting bored so she began making crafts. It wasn't long before she was well known and was kept busy selling whatever she made. There was always a steady stream of customers coming to her door to buy her fake flowers or various pictures or ornaments or baby shawls and sweaters and little outfits she had sewn. She won many prizes at the Weyburn Fair for her crafts. She also did baking and entered her butter tarts, buns and other goodies and again won many first prize ribbons.
After all of their children moved to Alberta, Yvonne and Rudolph also moved and took up residence in Sylvan Lake, AB in 1976. Once again Yvonne became well known for her baking and crafts, selling as many as 60 dozen buns each Saturday in the summer at the local flea market. After they retired they also spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona and led a very active life there. Yvonne always made friends quickly wherever she went as she loved to visit and be around people. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Smear, and of course her trips to the casino gave her countless hours of entertainment, not only while in the casino, but also while on the bus visiting with friends.
Rudolph and Yvonne moved back to Radville in 1987 and while they were in Mesa in 1989, Rudolph passed away. Yvonne kept on going south in the winters until she felt she was too old to go, and sold her mobile home there. She continued to live in her house in Radville until she was 94 when a stroke prevented her from living on her own. She was always accepting of what life threw her way, and made the best of every situation: she battled cancer, heart attacks and tremendous losses in her life, but always found good to keep on going. She will be very sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Funeral services were held at Holy Family Church in Radville on Monday, August 11, 2008 with Father Antony Bruno officiating.Donations can be made in memory of Yvonne to charities of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Hastings-Dionne Funeral Home, Weyburn, SK.
