Bobbie Bass
1923 ? 2022
BASS, Bobbie Bobbie Ruth Arbaugh Bass Loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Bobbie Ruth Arbaugh Bass, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2022, at UT Southwestern William P Clements University Hospital. She was surrounded by her family and husband, Bill, who was holding her hand. Bobbie was born in Avalon, Texas on October 31,1923 to Conrad Samuel and Helon Piper Arbaugh. She grew up in Dallas and after high school attended the University of Texas at Austin. Upon returning to Dallas, she met Bill and they were married on August 12, 1952. They would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this year. Bobbie and Bill were parents to son Brendan, born in 1956, and daughter, Margaret, born in 1960. A devout and faithful Episcopalian, Bobbie belonged many years to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church where she and Bill attended while raising Brendan and Margaret. Later, she and Bill joined Trinity Episcopal. As a native Texan, Bobbie loved her state and nation and was grateful for the opportunities both provided. She put that passion to work becoming active in the Republican Party in Dallas. She was a member of the Dallas Republican Women's Club and in 1970 was elected President of the Prestoncrest Republican Women's Club. During the late 1970's Bobbie began working at the William Bass showroom in the Dallas Decorative center. Her deepening interest and appreciation of antiques moved her to open her own store in 1981, The Corner Shop. Bobbie and Bill made many wonderful trips together to Europe buying pieces for her shop. There was delight when the containers full of furniture, lamps, tables and chairs acquired from the latest journey would arrive at the Corner Shop for unloading. With a keen eye toward quality and the history behind each piece, Bobbie took great pride in cleaning and waxing them before decorators and their clients came to shop. Bobbie retired in 2000 turning her business over to son, Brendan. Even while building her business, Bobbie found time for fun and relaxing vacations. Her favorite time was going to the beach in North Carolina. During her later years, Bobbie stayed active working in her yard, reading her newspapers and entertaining family and friends at her beloved Wander Place home. Bobbie is survived by her husband, William Bass; son Brendan Bass and his wife Tina; daughter Margaret Watson and husband Brad; her grandsons Spencer Bass and fiancée, Ann Fitzgerald, William Bass, Cullen Bass and wife Erica and baby Mabrey Bass; and granddaughters Eleanor Watson and Emily Watson. The family would like to send our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Belmont Village Senior Living Turtle Creek for caring for Bobbie. And to the emergency room staff at UT Southwestern Clements ER who were with our family and Bobbie during her last hours of life. A private memorial on the Bass family farm in Eastern North Carolina is planned.
