Mrs. Emma Bassett
Mrs. Emma Haverly Bassett, 71, widow of Rollin Bassett, died yesterday at the Franklin County hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Bassett was born Emma Lanfair in Clarksburg and spent her early life in North Adams. A number of years ago she came to Greenfield with her husband, who took over a plumbing and steamfitting business on Bank Row, which he conducted until his death. They had one child who died at the age of seven years.
On Oct. 20, 1920, Mrs. Bassett married Rollin Bassett, long a prominent citizen of Greenfield, whose death occurred in 1921. Mrs. Bassett was a member of the Methodist church for many years and was also identified with Arcana chapter, Eastern Star. She is survived by seven stepchildren, several of whom live in Greenfield. The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, with Rev. Dr. Herbert F. Randolph officiating and burial will be in the Federal street cemetery.
