Widney L. Bass
Oberlin-Widney L. "Blanc" Bass, age 81, passed away on March 24, 2012 at his home in Oberlin following a lengthy illness. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 1pm at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church of Oberlin. Fr. Felix Anyikwa will officiate. Burial will follow in Green Oak Cemetery of Kinder under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at New Beginnings Church of Oberlin beginning on Monday, March 26, 2012 from 2-10pm and will continue on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 from 8am until time of service.
Widney was a devoted husband of 49 years. He served his country in the United States Army. He worked hard over the years as a farmer and carpenter to provide for his family. He was a lifelong member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Carpenters Local 953 of Lake Charles.
Widney was a fisherman as well as an avid hunter-especially enjoying squirrel hunting. No snapping turtle was safe around him either! Widney maintained a great sense of humor despite his medical struggles over the last few years. He was a very determined man and always maintained a wonderful attitude. He had a great outlook on life. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His love for his grandchildren was immeasurable. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will remain in the hearts of everyone whose lives he touched in many ways.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Diane Bass of Oberlin; one son, Clinton Shane Bass of Oberlin; two daughters, Remanda Gaye Bass of Oberlin and Terrell Courville and husband, Mike of Moss Bluff; one brother, Irvin Bass of Oberlin; one sister, Laura Jean Foret of Eunice; and four grandchildren, Wesley and Casen Courville of Moss Bluff and Madison and Bret Bass of Oberlin.
Widney is preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Clinton Bass; two brothers, Nelson and Calvin Bass; and, two sisters Ethel Landreneau and Lady Mae Duplechin.
