Vanita Joan (Van Cleave) Bass
Vanita Joan (Van Cleave) Bass, affectionately known as ?Tiny? by her family and friends, age 84, passed away April 14, 2016. She was born February 2, 1932, in Royse City, TX, to Joe and DeWitt (Sorrells) Van Cleave. Vanita played the drums in high school and attended SMU in Dallas, TX. She later married James Bass on May 4, 1951, and they remained married for 47 years until his death. Vanita enjoyed gardening and loved feeding the birds. A member of the First United Methodist Church in Garland, TX, she was a loving woman that adored her grandchildren.
Vanita is survived by daughters: Kathy Bass, Ginny Johnson and husband Maurice and Angela Cobb and husband David; grandchildren: Kristin Finley and husband Bryne, Sarah Cobb, Alex Johnson, Jake Johnson and Nicholas King; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband: James C. Bass Sr.; son: James C. Bass Jr., sisters: Peggy Mask, Linda Fikes and Virginia Van Cleave; and parents: Joe and DeWitt Van Cleave.
A Night of Remembrance will be held Friday, April 22, 2016, at Rest Haven Funeral Home ? Rockwall Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
