- Shailer L. Bass rites Saturday
MIDLAND, Mich. ? Services for Dr. Shailer L. Bass, 82, former president of Dow Corning Corp., will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Presbyterian Church.
Calling will be form 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Miner Funeral home.
Bass, formerly of Indianapolis and the Virgin Islands, died Sunday.
As director of research for Dow Corning, he developed the first commercial use of silicones to waterproof wiring in World War II airplanes.
Bass was president and executive officer of Dow Corning from 1962 to 1967.
From 1967 to 1971 he was chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer for the company.
He was a graduate of Butler and Yale universities.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shailer L. Bass Scholarship Fund in care of Midland Foundation, 812 W. Main St., Midland, Mich. 48640.
Survivors ? wife Elisabeth Alberta Bass; sons Joh Dolf, Arlen, Brendon, Dervin, Walden Bass; daughters Jeralyn Freidli, Heather Nutting; sister Dorotha Jean Griffith; 14 grandchildren.
