Raydell Thorpe Bass
Mr. Raydell Thorpe Bass of Lake City, went home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2008 after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his family, and under the loving care of Haven Hospice of Lake City. A loving husband, dedicated father and proud grandfather, Mr. Bass was born March 19, 1935 in Madison County to Sidney B. and Trudie (Tuten) Bass. Mr. Bass was raised on a farm near the San Pedro Bay area of the county, and attended public schools. As a young man, Mr. Bass helped raise crops and hogs on the family farm, and cut railroad ties from the local forests. Soon after, Mr. Bass began a long career with Davey Tree Company and Asplundh Tree Expert Company until his recent retirement. Mr. Bass served the Lord in multiple churches, most notably serving as deacon at Calvary Baptist Church. He was a member of Hopeful Baptist Church at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Marjorie Cone Bass of Lake City; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Sue (Gary) Towns, and Kim (Scott) Johns; 5 grandchildren, Brandon Stalvey, Jennifer Johns, Justin Johns, and Angela Towns all four of Lake City, and Stephanie McCloud of Jacksonville; and 1 great-grandson, Zach Tulp, of Jacksonville. A memorial service will be on August 12 at Beggs Funeral Home in Madison with interment at the San Pedro Bay Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Haven Hospice, 6037 US Hwy 90, Lake City, FL 32055.
