Retired principal, O.B. Bass, died at 75

Funeral services for Oakel Burnis Bass, 75, of 303 Bandock Drive, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Conducting will be the Reverend Barry Lane and the Reverend Jack Ruth. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Terry Parrish, Franklin Lee Parrish, Douglas Howard Parrish, Robert Edward Parrish, John Ryan Bass, Fred Bass and Eddie Jones.
He died yesterday morning in Durham County General Hospital after a long illness.
He was born and reared in Sampson County but he had been a Durham resident since 1946.
He was the principal of Mangum School for five years and was the principal of Oak Grove School for 24 years before retiring in 1975.
He was a member of the City and County Retired School Personnel Association and the North Carolina Teacher’s Association.
He was a member of Fletcher’s Chapel United Methodist Church, where for many years he taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, served on the church board and belonged to the Fellowship Class.
He also was a member of the Oak Grove Ruritan Club.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Frances Jones Bass; a daughter, Mrs. Frances B. Parrish of Beaufort; a son, John William Bass of Orlando, Florida; a brother, Leo F. Bass of Fuquay-Varina; and six grandchildren.
