      Bass ? Family History

Moral Bass, born a slave during the beginning of the Civil War. He later was freed at the age of 12 yrs old when President Lincoln abolished slavery. Moral found success several years later when he became a farmer and owned many acres of land. His success was not as common during those days because many ex-slaves were sharecroppers. Moral met and married his first wife, Molly Trotter. To this union were born nine children and many years together. Later, Moral met and married Lizzie Porter. She and Moral raised five children and became the grandparents of a host of grandchildren. She was often referred to as Grandma Lizzie. Grandma Lizzie was a very loving and devoted wife. Moral?s children grew to love, wed and had families of their own. Two of Moral?s children, Samuel and Sally Bass met and married two members of the Ladd family, Coran and Ham Ladd. From this reunion evolved the creation of double cousins.
