Esther Teerlink Shepherd Bassett
Esther Teerlink Shepherd Bassett, 84, died May 14, 1999 at her home. Born March 12, 1915 in Salt Lake CIty to John A. and Geertrruida Brouwer Teerlink. Married Marymond Shepherd, later divorced. Married Dexter P. Bassett in Salt Lake City January 30, 1948. He preceded her in death November 6, 1995. Esther worked as a nurse at South Davis Community Hospital and Lakeview Hospital. Her first priority was her family. She devoted her whole life to them and sacrificed much in their behalf. She canned hundreds of quarts of fruits and vegetables when she had her family at home. She was still making jams and jellies this year for Christmas gifts. Her homemade bread and apple pie were famous. She loved to sew, crochet and quilt. She made countless gifts for her children and grandchildren...beautiful quilts and afghans. She made scores of stuffed animals, especially bears. She loved to read and travel. She and Dexter traveled all over the U.S. in their retirement years and to Europe and Hawaii. She was the historian of the Midvale Senior Center. She was very active in the LDS Church, and loved giving service at the temple. She worked at the Jordan River Temple as a receptionist.
Survived by her children, Patricia A. Bills, Daniel (Christine) Shepherd, Elenora Touchette, Lynn (Gloria) Shepherd, Nancy Theriot, Alan (Pam) Bassett, Robert (Sylvia) Purdy, Charlotte (Brent) andrus, Dexter (Linda) Bassett. Donald (Roe) Bassett; stepchildren, Gary (Prudy) Penney, and Barbara (Dallin) Jensen; 48 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brother, Nichlas J. Teerlink; sister, Emma Lee. Preceded in death by husband, Dexter P. Bassett; son, Carl John Shepherd; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services Wednesday, May 19, 11 a.m., Midvale Stake Center, 8171 So. Jackson Street (260 West), Midvale. Friends may call at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Tuesday, 6-8 p.m. and at the church Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Midvale City Cemetery.
