      Henderson Harbor, Dec. 6. ? LaMort W. Bassett, 80, long a fishing guide and sailor on the Great Lakes, died at 7:15 Sunday evening at his home here. Death was caused by infirmities of old age. He had been in ill health for the past two years and had been confined to his bed two weeks.
      Mr. Bassett was born in the town of Henderson Oct. 22, 1957, a son of the late Gustavus and Marian Hubbard Bassett. He was educated in the public schools in this section and spent his entire life in this vicinity.
      He married Miss Hollie Golden of Henderson in 1900 in a ceremony performed in Sackets Harbor.
      Mr. Bassett had sailed on various boats on the Great Lakes for the past 25 years. Since 1900 he had served as a fishing guide for Henry Steinway, piano manufacturer, of New York City. Mr. Steinway spends his summers at Henderson.
      He was a member of the Universalist Church of Henderson and a member of the Bay View lodge, No. 905, F. and A.M. Mr. Bassett was also a member of the Eastern Star chapter. He was interested in music and was an experienced violinist.
      He is survived by his widow; a sister, Miss Nona V. Bassett and a nice, Mrs. T.W. Roberts, both of St. Petersburg, Fla.
      Funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. Dr. Harry Westboork Reed, pastor of All Souls Universalist church at Watertown, will officiate. Burial will be made in the family plot at Roberts Corners. The Bay View lodge will have charge of Masonic services at the residence.
