Keith Lavern Bassett Jr. (Big Pete) departed this life on Monday, October 17, 2022, at the age of 37.
Big Pete was born on March 1, 1985, the son of Keith Lavern Bassett Sr. and Sheila Inez Bassett in Peoria, Illinois.
Big Pete will be lovingly remembered by his devoted and loving Fiance?, Denise Bassett (Lewis), children; Ja?Haree Green, Sy?Riah Joiner, Jamarrion March, Kaliya Bassett, Dever Bassett, Deqarius Bassett, DeMarius Bassett, Courtland Shields, Dasia Perry, father, Keith Bassett Sr., five brothers; Terrance Bassett, Isiaha Bassett, Micheal Bassett, John Crowder, Kevin Carter, ten sisters; Lakia Bassett, Danette Johnson, Tiffany Scott, Damara Johnson, BerRisha Brown, Latoya Crowder, Stephanie Crowder, Tiffany (John) Lawson, Lakeisha Bradley, Kennedy Gaines, two grandchildren; Jay?Von Shields and Maurnise Norman, God-parents; Beverly Bradley, Kathy Brown, a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special relatives and friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his mother, Sheila Bassett, brother; Aaron Bassett, grandparents; Dorothy Thomas, Robert C. Bassett, Dorien Bassett.
He graduated from Manual High School. During his high school years Big Pete was a member of a dance group called Persuasion, he loved to dance.
Pete later went to further his education at Illinios Central College, and St. Louis Community College. He worked at District 150 as a teacher?s aide for many years. He was a man that wore many hats. His humble beginnings started at Proctor Recreation Center as a host.
Pete was better known for his as a Comedian, Promotor, Coach, Host, and Mc. Big Pete was a great comedian, had the opportunity to host Funny & Famous with comedians DeRay Davis, Michael Blackson, Jess Hilarious. He also hosted the River City Soul Fest staring Ashanti & Jarule.
Pete was all about the kids and his community. He was a coach for AAU basketball, Team Harvey. He also hosted many other community events.
Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Big Pete knew he had an outgoing personality, and you were about to receive the best laugh ever from him. He had a sense of humor that was unmatched. He enjoyed traveling and partying. Pete loved his cars and rims. He was a member of Flossin Car Club. But most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends and many others, all who were dear to him. Big Pete was a Leader, Dreamer, Icon Figure and truly a ladies' man!
He will dearly be missed.
