- He was in the Wiltshire Regiment in World War II and was based for some time at Chartwell (Churchill's home) before going across to France in the Normandy invasion. He was wounded quite seriously and brought back to the UK. After his injury, his parents moved to Ystalyfera, near Swansea, where they bought a shoe shop at 6 Commercial Street. He worked for Lloyds Bank in London briefly before the war and went back there when he had recovered from his injuries. He continued to work for Lloyds Bank until he retired in 1980.
