A private graveside service with military rites will follow with interment at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Menlo, Iowa.
Emmett was born in rural Guthrie County, Iowa on May 6th, 1920, the seventh child of Charles and Etta Miller Bassett. He graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1938 and soon thereafter met his wife, Margaret Draman of Stuart, Iowa. They were married on June 7th, 1941. During World War II, he served in the United States Coast Guard and was stationed in St. Petersburg, Florida. Following his military service, Emmett became a U.S. Postal rural carrier and spent forty years delivering mail, first in Menlo, Iowa and subsequently in Farnhamville, Iowa where he resided for 57 years. Emmett and Margaret enjoyed a lifetime of travel together, including winters in Texas, Florida and Arizona. He was an avid golfer and spent many happy hours in his woodworking shop. Emmett believed wholeheartedly in hard work and service to his community. He loved people and made friends wherever he went. His greatest love and joy was his family. He will be with us always.
