Funeral of Mrs. J.B. Bassett At Holsworthy
The funeral of Mrs. Jemima Bartlett Bassett, widow of Mr. John Bassett, for many years of the Crown and Sceptre Hotel, Holsworthy, hotel proprietor, took place on Thursday afternoon at Holsworthy, and was largely attended. Deceased passed away on Sunday morning, following a short illness, at the age of 61 years. The service at the Parish Church was conducted by Rev. R.L. Pitt-Johnson (Rector). The hymns sung were ?Thine for ever? and ?Let Saints on earth,? and the 90th Psalm was chanted, Mr. C. Cooper presiding at the organ. The interment took place in the churchyard. The mourners were Messrs. Richard Bassett, Wilfred Bassett, Donald Bassett (sons), Mesdames G. May L. Chamberlain, D. French, Miss Marjorie Bassett and Miss Edna Bassett (daughters), Mrs. M. Goodman (sister), Messr. J. and A. Rowe (brothers), Mr. J. Vanstone (brother-in-law), Mrs. J. Rowe (sister-in-law), Messrs. R. Hale, J. Chamberlain, W. May and W. French (sons-in-law), Mr. M. Bassett, Plymouth, Mrs. S. Bassett, Bristol (nephew and niece).
Amongst the large attendance were Mrs. J. martin, Mrs. M. Jeffery, Mr. B. Martin, Mrs. Cobbledick (Hatherleigh), Mrs. Blight (Hatherleigh), Mr. H. MacMillan, Mrs. Ashton, Mrs. Hopper (Tatson), Miss Moore, Mr. Routley and Miss Routley (Kilkhampton, Miss Dorothy Jones, Mr. and Mrs. T. Westaway, Mr. W.T. Kivell, Mrs. James Rowland, Mr. S.J. Rowland, Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Smith (Derhill) and Mrs. Gifford (Launcells).
The bearers were Messrs. S. Tidball, J. Hicks, J. Piper, H.J. Penwarden, J. Rowland and T. Cornish.
There were numerous floral tributes.
