Couple Observe 50th Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Holsey J. Searle of Hadley Honored at Brother's Home
Northampton, May 6 - Mr. and Mrs. Holsey J. Searle of Hadley celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday night at the home of Mr. Searle's brother, C.P. Searle, on Bridge street. Dinner was served to a company of 26, and gold pieces and other gifts were presented to the guests of honor.
Mr. Searle is a native of Huntington and Mrs. Searle is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joel Bassett of Easthampton. They were married by Rev. A.M. Colton of Easthampton. Mr. and Mrs. Searle formerly lived on Park Hill, near the Easthampton line, in Northampton, and he is a former alderman of Northampton. On the Easthampton side of the line, he was prominent in the Easthampton Farmers' club. Mr. and Mrs. Searle have a son, Joel of Hadley, and five grandchildren.

Former Three-County Fair Official and
Northampton Alderman Succumbs at 81
Easthampton, Jan. 6. - Holsey J. Searle, 81, died this morning at 11.30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alpheus Hall of Glendale street. He was born at Huntington, son of Joel Emerson and Miriam (Sanford) Searle. The family moved to Park Hill in 1869. Its associations were largely with Easthampton but the home was over the Northampton line and Mr. Searle had served the city of Northampton as alderman many years ago.
After leaving Park Hill, Mr. Searle lived on West street, Easthampton, and then moved to Hadley where he lived for 11 years. He returned to Easthampton about a year after the death of his wife. Mr. Searle had been a director of the Three County Agricultural society. He was a member of the Easthampton Farmers club for many years, a charter member of Easthampton Grange and a member of Ionic lodge of Mason's.
He leaves a son, Joel B. Searle, of Northampton; three brothers, Abner S. of Hadley, Charles P., and George Emerson of Easthampton; a sister, Mrs. W.A. Mann of Easthampton and five grandchildren. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2.30 at the Easthampton Congregational church and burial will be in Brookside cemetery.
