H.W. Bass Shot To Death In Columbia
Heyward Walter Bass, 68, was shot to death during a robbery attempt at a residence on Pendleton Street early Friday.
Born in Fairfield County, he was a son of Walter Bass and the late Cora Dove Bass. He was a retired loom fixer and a member of the Central Baptist Church.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Thompson Funeral Home, conducted by the Reverend Howard Price. Burial will follow in the Ridgeway Cemetery.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Loren C. Bass; three daughters, Mrs. Bernice Mayfield of Augusta, Georgia, Mrs. Francis Fortner of Ninety Six, and Mrs. Judie Stone of Columbia; his father of Lugoff; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Branham of Ridgeway; and four brothers, Tollie, Charlie, Sam and Johnny Bass of Ridgeway.
