- Augusta Eagle, 12 Dec 1885
Mrs. Bassett - Mrs. G.M. Bassett, wife of John Bassett and daughter of
J.D. and Mrs. A.M. Beebe, died at her home, in this city, Thursday p.m., Dec.
3, 1885. Her death although anticipated by those who had ministered to her
during her last sickness, was to many of our citizens sudden and unexpected.
Notwithstanding she had been a sufferer for seven years. She was ambitious and
industrious, seldom idle when she could possibly avoid it. Mrs. Bassett had
been a member of the M.E. Church of this city to the time of her death, and
will be missed from its social and public gatherings. She was born in 1845 in
Massena, St. Lawrence Co. N.Y. Came west with her parents in 1854, and moved
with her husband from Monroe, Green Co., Wis., to this place 10 years ago. She
was the mother of one child, a little daughter of eleven years, who survives
her. The husband and near relatives have the sympathy of the church and
community. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Friday morning Dec.
4th, conducted by the Pastor.
