Florenia Ridgeway Bassett
BASSETT Mrs. Florenia Ridgeway Bassett, whos name mean Blossoming and Charming was a native of Bulter, AL, and a lifelong resident of Mobile, AL was born November 11, 1930 to the parentage of the late, Julian Henry Ridgeway and the late, Rosetta Ross Ridgeway, crossed over to Eternal Life to be with the Lord on January 19, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband Cyrial Ulysses Bassett, Sr., son Cyrial U. Bassett, Jr. and three brothers, Julian H. Ridgeway, Jr.; Leonard Ridgeway and Theodis Ridgeway.She was a member of Greater Pine Grove A.M.E. Church in Mobile, AL., a graduate of Josephine Allen High School and received her Nursing Assistance Diploma from Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. During her lifetime she worked for Dr. Wilcox, Mobile, AL, Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn, NY, and a 19 year retiree of the USA Medical Center Hospital, Mobile, AL. Florenia was affectionately known as The Praying Nurse." She leaves to cherish her blessed memories two sons, Charles J. Bassett, Joseph A. Bassett, one daughter, Eleanor (James) Stallworth, all of Mobile, AL. One daughter-in-law, Sheila Bassett, Brooklyn, NY. Seven grandchildren, Lamont Bassett, Linora Reese, Vincent (Tinishia) Reese, Jr., LaShunda Hubbard, all of Mobile, AL.; Marilyn Bassett, Kalendy (Bing) Bassett-Chiu, Cyrial Anthony Bassett, III, all of Brooklyn, NY.; Seven great-grandchildren Jemarkus, Aniya, Joshua, Vincent III, Noah, Kennedy, Zulie. a devoted brother, Kelly (Annette) Ridgeway, Brooklyn NY; four devoted sisters, Alberta Brown, Brooklyn, NY., Geneva Ridgeway and Cleodis (James) Barnes, Mobile, Al.; Irmatine Marshall, Brooklyn, NY.; one brother-in-law, Darryl (Angela) Bassett, Mobile, AL.; four sister-in-laws, Hattie Ridgeway and Barbara Ridgeway, Brooklyn, NY.; Dietrea Bowers and Donna Section, Houston TX.; adopted uncle the most Rev. Joseph L. Howze; a host of devoted cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, one devoted Sis. Janie Powe. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Reese Funeral Home from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, January 29 , 2011from 9a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral hour. Rev. Wanda Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Lawn Haven Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the careful direction of Reese Funeral Home.

Florenia Ridgeway, daughter of Julian and Rosetta Ridgeway, born 11 Nov 1930 in Choctaw County, Alabama. She died 19 Jan 2011 in Mobile, Alabama. She married Cyrial U. Bassett. They had four children.
