Emma Jean Bassett
Blondie Bassett, 87, of Newark, died on Friday, march 16, 2007 at the Wayne County Nursing Home. Mrs. Bassett was born on July 30, 1919 in Sodus Center, the daughter of Cornelius and Julia Colmunt Toye. She retired from the Newark State School where she had worked in the Laundry for 20 years. Prio to that, she had worked for Bloomer Brother for 20 years. Blondie was a very active member with her church, St. Mark's Epsicopal Church in Newark. Over the years, she was also a hard working volunteer and member of the auxiliaries of Newark Elks Club, the August Mauer Post American Legion and the Arcadia Memorial Post, VFW. She was a long time member of the Amitie Chapter of the Order of Easter Star. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, March 19 at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20 at the St. Mark's Episcopal Church, South Main Street, Newark with the Rev. Carmen Rae Seufert officiating. Burial will be in the Newark Cemetery. She is survived by a brother, Edward Toye of Canton, GA; several nieces and nephews and many good friends. Blondie was predeceased by her husbands, Kenneth Cady in 1980 and Albert Hank Bassett in 2001. She was also predeceased by sisters Augusta Stevens, twin sister Mary Potter, and Salina DeSchepper, brothers Peter, Augustus and Cornelius Jr., and Albert Toye and Gabriel De Toye. Memorials in her name may be made to the St. Mark's Epsicopal Church or ones favorite charity.
