Emele Bassett Beverly
A resident of Galveston, Texas, she died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at the Louisiana Guest House. She was 92 and a native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Greater Antioch Baptist Church, 2139 Nebraska St., from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, conducted by the Rev. Levert Kemp Sr. Interment in Stockade Cemetery. She is survived by a sister, Mary Bassett Battieste, Baton Rouge; and two brothers, Lemuel Bassett, Bunkie, and Wilbert Bassett, Galveston. Preceded in death by her parents, Cortez and Lillie Hatter Bassett; husband, William Beverly; brothers, Willie, Nolan, Lloyd, Cortez and Wickliff Bassett; and sisters, Celestine Jackson and Emma Levy. She was a graduate of McKinley Senior High School, Class of 1931.
