Roger Dales Sims

Roger Dale Sims, 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, July 21st 2018 in Conroe, Texas with his wife at his side. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 10:00 am with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at West Conroe Baptist Church located at 1855 Longmire Rd, Conroe, TX 77304. Roger was born on August 5th, 1946 in Soso, Mississippi to Desta Waltman Bassett and Albert W. Sims. In 1967 he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for 28 years attaining the prestigious rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In his early years Roger was based in Germany and he is a Vietnam veteran. While holding specialties in infantry and aviation, Roger earned his bachelor?s degree and later began a lengthy career flying commercial airplanes working for Continental Airlines and flew under the rank of Captain for 23 years. Roger lived a full life. He enjoyed dancing, flying airplanes, and traveling with his friends and family. He was fond of the finer things in life. He enjoyed taking many cruises around the world with his loving wife. He liked entertaining guests at his home on Lake Conroe and boating with his family. He was a great father, grandfather, and husband. Roger was a born leader and the rock of the family and he will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his daughter Jennifer Carrol and his brother William Sims. Roger is survived by his loving wife Linda Sims, daughters; Carolyn Ward and Kristy Groth, his sister Janice Roback and grandchildren, Adam Carrol, Alison Carrol, Aaron Carrol, Billy Gates, Dinah Ward, Taylor Kinard, Makenzie Groth, and Heather Groth. Family and friends are welcome attend a reception at West Conroe Baptist immediately following the service.
