Celestane Bassett - "Brother"
Died Thursday, Sept. 21, 1989, in Alexandria. He was 77, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of Alexandria. He was a retired Rapides Parish School System employee and a veteran of World War II. Visiting at Gilbert Funeral Home, 1 to 4 p.m. Monday. Religious services at Israelite Baptist Church, 1841 Thomas H. Delpit Dr., at 8 p.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Charles L. Burris Sr. Dismissal at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Survived by two sisters, twin, Celestine Bassett Coats and Adeline Bassett Tucker; a brother-in-law, Luther Tucker; seven nieces, two nephews, 29 greatn nieces and nephews, 10 great-great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Burnett and Lulla Runnel Bassett; wives, Odeal Mason Bassett and Rosa Walker Bassett; and a brother-in-law, Wilbert L. Coats Sr. He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Alexandria.
