      Arnie Bass

Arnie Bass, 78, left mortality peacefully on February 27, 2023 at home in Colorado Springs, CO, after a year-long battle with lung cancer. He was a beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend to all he met.
He was born on July 10, 1944 in Rougemont, North Carolina as the "baby boy" of Buck and Mimmie (Daye) Bass. He was raised by loving parents who taught him many principles of Jesus Christ and to be a good boy. He attended school in North Carolina including graduating from A&T in Greensboro ROTC. After being commissioned in the Air Force he went to Georgia Tech to receive his Master Degree. He served his country proudly for 21 years retiring as a Lt. Colonel in 1988. He owned and maintained several rental properties until retiring from that in 2018.
He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in August of 1991 and has served faithfully in any capacity asked of him including his final calling as a Bishop and was so beloved by his "flock". He loved Heavenly Father's children and was warm and kind to everyone offering words of encouragement, comfort, wisdom, and counsel (which we called Arnie-isms). He loved the gospel of Jesus Christ and was always testifying of Him.
He married the love of his life, Leola Brower, on December 31, 2004 and became an instant father and grandfather of many whom he adored and loved being with. He loved being outdoors skiing, golfing, hiking, and bicycling. And he loved fixing things. He called himself a restorer rather than a repairer and probably wins for the most tools. He did not love traveling, but he loved his wife so he did a lot of that.
Arnie is survived by his wife Leola, his stepchildren: Shellie Kiper, Memorie (Eric) Dudley, Adrianna (Nick) Laird, Tyler (Melissa) Coon, Tawnie (David) Hernandez, Cameron (Rachael) Coon, Christopher Slade and Amber Slade; 36 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters in law and nieces and nephews whom he adores.
Preceding him in death were his parents and all of his siblings: Joel (Anna), Nehemia (Sally), Faye, Emmanuel, Joseph (Hattie), Eldonia, and Justice.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday, March 6th at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints at 4955 Meadowland Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO with a short viewing from 10-10:45. There is also a viewing and visitation on Sunday, March 5th from 6-8 pm at the church. Military honors burial will follow the funeral at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery in Colorado Springs.
In lieu of flowers you can contribute to the Church of Jesus Christ Humanitarian Aid, or go to justserve.org to contribute money or service in Arnie's name.
