Alyce Froehlich Bassett, the daughter of Alois and Marie (Schmidt) Froehlich was born September 6, 1912 in Reeseville, Wisconsin. Alyce's first job as a teenager was playing piano for the silent movies. She also used to play for civic events and her church in her home town of Reeseville. Alyce graduated from Reeseville High School in 1930. After high school, she attended Le Clair Beauty School in Milwaukee, WI, for one year. Following graduation, she was employed as a beautician (cosmetologist) in Watertown, WI, for two years before moving to Appleton, WI, where she worked at the former Buetow Beauty Shop for seven years.
Alyce was united in marriage to Elton W. Bassett on October 6, 1939. They made their home in Appleton, WI, where E.W. (Al) Bassett founded Bassett Refrigeration, Inc. Alice enjoyed being a homemaker and mother to their two daughters. She was an excellent baker and enjoyed knitting, reading, genealogy and writing poetry. While in Appleton she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She resided at Parkview Court before moving to Lakeview Good Samaritan Center, where she was living at the time of her death. Alyce and her late husband, Al, valued education and the gifts it provided. While Alyce was living in Glenwood she established the Bassett Family Scholarship, a scholarship for the Arts, English or Science given to students at the Minnewaska Area High School.
