Alvey Bass
Odessa, Texas
Alvey Bass was born in 1958 in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, grew up in House, New Mexico and graduated from Melrose High School in 1976. While in school he played football, baseball, basketball, and also participated in track and FFA. He later attended New Mexico State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering in 1981. After graduation he began his 22 year engineering career with Halliburton. He eventually left Halliburton to become an independent petroleum consultant in 2007, and remained in that capacity until he passed. In his free time he was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 775, with his two sons. He continued serving the Boy Scouts of America even after his sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout and transitioned to adulthood. He was also very involved with his church, Tanglewood Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. His character could best be summed up by always being prepared and giving to others but was never known to lean on others. Alvey is survived by his two sons, Bryan and Derek Bass, and his two grandchildren Bryce and Charlie from his oldest son Bryan and his wife Adelita. Visitation will be at Odessa Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. A memorial service will be given at Tanglewood Baptist Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. (3737 Tanglewood Lane, Odessa, Texas 79762).
