Aldine Bassett Dickerson Morris
Aldine Bassett Dickerson Morris, 89, of Pulaski, died Tuesday morning, December 20, 2011, in Lewis Gale Hospital-Pulaski. She was born August 3, 1922, in Pulaski, and was the daughter of the late Helen Mary Schrader Bassett and Lonnie Jackson Bassett Sr. Aldine attended the First Church of the Brethren, playing the piano for adult Sunday School for several years. She was a graduate of Mayfair College of Lynchburg, and was Vice President of the Virginia Board of Cosmetology for several years. She was a former member of the Pauline Church of Christ, was clerk of the board and a trustee of the church, and was also the church pianist for 40 years. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club for 50 years, having served as secretary and president of the club. She organized the local TOP's Club more than 30 years ago. (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). Aldine was a graduate of New River Community College of Nursing, was a member of the staff of Pulaski Community Hospital for 15 years, and retired July 31, 1987. Prior to her nursing career, she was the owner of the Wave Rite Beauty Shop for 25 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Ernest Richard Dickerson Sr. and Sherman H. Morris; brothers, L.J. Bassett Jr., and Charles E. Bassett; and a sister, Mrs. Clyde "Ora Lee" Bassett Marshall; and an infant son, Michael Scott Dickerson. She is survived by her son, E.R. Dickerson Jr., of Pulaski; sister-in-law, Martha and her husband, Charlie Ward, of Dublin; nephews, Joseph M. Bassett and his wife, Cathey, and their son, Riley Bassett, of Blacksburg, Jon A. Bassett and daughter, Brooklyn Summer, of Roanoke; also a sister-in-law, Christine Madsen, of Cummings, Iowa; niece, Betty Jane and her husband, Harold Turner, of Boones Mill, and niece, Marjorie Lockard, of Roanoke. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011, at Seagle Funeral Home with the Rev. John Collins and the Rev. Frank Peters officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from noon until 2 p.m. service time at the funeral home.
