      Rites Sunday For Josephine Bass

      Memorial services for Mrs. Josephine Bass, widow of Dr. T. W. Bass, will be held at 2 o?clock Sunday afternoon at the McIntyre chapel in Grand Island.

      Mrs. Bass, a president of the Nebraska Rebekah assembly, died last Thursday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward Beran, San Anselmo, Calif., following an extended illness. Services were held last Saturday at San Anselmo and the body cremated.

      Mrs. Beran, bringing the ashes here for interment beside the grave of her husband in Grand Island cemetery, will arrive in Grand Island tomorrow night. She will be a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Kelly, 108 West Seventh street, during her stay in the city.

      Rebekah Leaders from All Parts of State Here for Services

      Bestowing posthumous ritualistic honors of the order, grand officers, past presidents and members of the Nebraska Rebekah assembly attended a mediation service and three past presidents of the assembly, all residents of Lincoln, presided at the ritualistic rites. Dr. B. Rosalie Crabtree of Lincoln served as noble grand, Mrs. Evelyn Lane, Fremont, assembly president, and Mrs. Lydia Davis, past noble grand of the local lodge, accompanied by Miss Mildred Davis, sang ?Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.?

      Dr. Crabtree also served as the urn bearer, carrying the ashes of Mrs. Bass from the mortuary to the family plot in Grand Island cemetery. She was accompanied by the honorary pallbearers, Mrs. Lois Harris, assembly secretary, of Lynch Mrs. Annie Elifritz of Edgar and Mrs. Laura Knapp, Miss Edith Lancaster, assembly warden, and Mrs. J. W. Pittman, past matron of the I.O.O.F. home, all of York. Mrs. M. J. Kelly served as companion to Mrs. Edward Beran, daughter of Mrs. Bass and the last surviving member of the family.

      Others here for the service were R. H. Harris of Lynch, Walter Elifritz of Edgar, Mrs. L. D. Monroe of Hastings, W. Sapp and J. W. Pittman of York, and Dr. H. C. Crabtree, Ercel King, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Pixley, Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Hansmire, Joseph Vollery, Miss Hazel Bain, the Misses Gladyce and Evelyn Soukup and Miss Mildred Sandley, all of Lincoln.

      Josephine Eddy Thralls Bass, only daughter of Dennis R. and Frances A. Thralls, was born in Allegan, Mich., Mar. 29, 1871. when she was seven years old the family moved to Walton Junction, Mich., and later she came to Grand Island with her mother. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church here in 1887 and graduated from the Grand Island High school in the class of ?89.

      Following an extended trip to the Pacific coast with her mother following graduation she returned to Grand Island in 1892 and on Oct. 9, 1893, married Truman W. Bass. A daughter, Ethel, now Mrs. Edward Beran of San Anselo, Cal., was born of their marriage.

      The Bass family located at Broken Bow where Dr. Bass practiced dentistry, in 1898 and moved to Lincoln in 1926. Dr. Bass died Aug. 21, 1939.

      Mrs. Beran, a guest of the M. J. Kelly home since her arrival Friday, left yesterday for Lincoln and will pass through Grand Island, enroute home, next Saturday.

      Mrs. Bass was making her home with the Berans when death occurred. Cremation followed service at San Anselmo.
