Dwane E. Bassett
Mr. Bassett, age 86 years, a loving husband and father, passed away March 9, 2013 at McLaren Bay Region. Funeral and committal services will be on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Kirkpatrick officiating. Private interment will be in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time. Memorial contributions can be made to Good Samaritan Rescue Mission or South Baptist Church of Bay City.

Mr. Bassett, age 86 years, a loving husband and father, passed away March 9, 2013 at McLaren Bay Region. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 12, 1926 to the late Homer and Edith (Honiman) Bassett. On October 12, 1957, he married the former Valerie J. Ignaszewski and she survives him. He also leaves 3 children: David W. (Patty) Bassett, Daniel B. (Deborah) Bassett and Douglas G. (Lori) Bassett, 7 grandchildren: Jason, Ashley (Justin) Labadie, Rebecca (Timothy) Richardson, Amanda, Catherine (Rob) Hoxie, Brian and Derrick and 7 great-grandchildren: Delayne, Trenton, Jaydon, Isabel, Caileigh, Aubreigh and Nikolai.
Dwane was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and had worked as a machine operator for General Motors and had a retirement career as Realtor with Realty World and A-1 Realty. He was a member of South Baptist Church. He and Val received Volunteer of the Year Award at Good Samaritan Rescue Mission in 2008 and he was an executive board member for the founding of Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. He and Val were foster parents for 28 children over 14 years. He was director and chauffeur for the ?Bassett Family Children?s Gospel Team? for 14 years. Many church family and friends will remember his kindness and generosity as landlord and handyman. He could grow anything in any soil.
