Darcie Gwen Bass
BASS Darcie Gwen, Age 59 of Forest Lake Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother passed away, Thursday, October 18, 2012 after a brave and heartbreaking battle with Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease. She was diagnosed in November 2011 with this rare and terminal disease that progressed rapidly and ended her life much too soon. Darcie graduated from Minneota High School in 1970. She attended Southwest State University, and then started her medical career at St. John's and United Hospital. In 1976, she met her husband John Bass and they married on February 5, 1977. In 1978, they packed up and moved to the island of Bequia in the Caribbean, where they sailed, explored, and enjoyed their new life together. In 1980, they settled in Forest Lake and welcomed their first daughter, Brittney. Darcie went on to continue her work at Chisago Lakes Medical Center, and moved with the expansion of Fairview Lakes Wyoming. In 1990, they welcomed their second daughter, Carly. The highlight of Darcie's later years were not only her children, but the birth of her first grandchild, Ava LeEtte, in 2004. Darcie enjoyed boating, fires by the lake, being with friends, and most of all spending time with her family. All who knew or met Darcie had the privilege of enjoying her kind and compassionate heart, her wonderful sense of humor, and her infectious energy and smile. Darcie is preceded in death by her parents, Marian and Donald Wigness. She is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Brittney and Carly; granddaughter, Ava; brothers, Bruce, David, Gary Wigness; as well as many other family, relatives and friends. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Mattson Funeral Home, 343 North Shore Drive, Forest Lake.
