The Bassetts
SALINE ? Mr. and Mrs. Oral Bassett of Saline will be honored for 50 years of marriage Sunday at a family dinner.
Mr. Bassett and the former Rita Rose were married Jan. 19, 1919, in Marion, Iowa.
The couple has lived in the Ann Arbor area since 1929. Mr. Bassett is a retired farmer who also worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for several years throughout the state.
A longtime member of the Grange, Mr. Bassett was treasurer of the Pittsfield Grange for 14 years. He also served on the Saline Fair Board.
The couple?s children are Robert Bassett of Ypsilanti, Burl Bassett of Ann Arbor, Donald Bassett of Milan, and Miss Virginia E. Bassett of Saline.
The elder Bassetts have 12 grandchildren.

Reta Basett, Saline, MI
Age 96, died Sunday, September 8, 1996, at the Whitehall Convalescent Home in Ann Arbor, MI. She was born November 26, 1899, in Marion County, IA, the daughter of Thomas E. and Nancy E. (Stephens) Rose. She had been a Saline resident most of her life. On January 19, 1919, in Attica, IA, she married Oral Bassett and he preceded her in death on June 13, 1979. She had been an employee of the Saline Community Hospital from 1959 until 1966. Survivors include two sons, Robert M. Bassett of Ann Arbor, MI, and Donald L. Bassett of Saline, MI; one daughter, Virginia E. Bassett, also of Saline MI; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Virginia M. Bassett; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Burl N. Bassett, and two brothers and three sisters. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 1996, at 11 a.m. from the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home with Rev. Ronald Boldman officiating. Burial will take place in the Oakwood Cemetery, Saline, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one?s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home where friends may begin calling today between the hours of 1-9 p.m.
