Headland Man Killed: One Badly Injured
Able Green Bass, 70-year old Headland resident, died early Sunday morning and Representative J. A. Parish of Henry confined to a Troy hospital as sequel to an accident Saturday night when Parish?s machine struck a car ni tow of a wrecker there miles north of Beck's mill on the Montgomery highway. Two negroes riding on the back seat of the Parish car were dismissed from the Troy hospital after first aid.
The party was returning from a business trip to Montgomery when Parish, blinded by the lights of an approaching car, struck the machine in tow of the Brundidge wrecker. Mr. Bass, whose neck was broken and his skull fractured, died at 1 o?clock Sunday morning in the Troy hospital five hours after the accident; Mr. Parish, suffering chest injuries and contusions, was still a patient there today.
Meantime, as funeral services were held from the Bas home this morning, the sheriff of Pike county launched an investigation into the accident.
Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, Nee Miss Minnie Hudson, of Banks; two sons, Fred and Joe Bass, both of Headland, a daughter, Mr. J.L. Hollis, Headland; a sister, Mrs. A.B. Sellers, of Dothan, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A prominent farmer of the Headland section, Mr. Bass was active in affairs of the Headland Methodist church.
